Key Stage 3
In Years 7 and 8 students will cover netball, basketball, dance, gymnastics, athletics, striking and fielding and fitness each year. Lessons are practical, with the focus being on developing core skills and game play tactics. Students will develop their leadership and knowledge of officiating through these activities. They will also develop their understanding of the importance of being healthy and how important exercise is to this.
In year 9 students will select a sporting pathway, for example aesthetics, fitness, net/wall games or invasion games and will specialise in this, enabling them to study this area in more depth.
Key Stage 4
Students will be guided into an appropriate course, either GCSE PE, BTEC First Award in PE or Sports Leaders/ First Aid courses. These will be followed throughout Years 10 and 11. Students will continue to receive 2 hours of PE per week. Students will also have the option to select GCSE Dance as part of the options programme.
St Edmund’s offers a wide range of activities through enrichment, including traditional sports squads such as netball, football, gymnastics and basketball as well as alternative activities including zumba, kickboxing, trampolining and dance.
